No life without trees!

Seeds for Prosperity’s activities also extend to agro-forestry. The Gambia is located in the Sahel region of Africa, which has limited tree cover. In addition, the country has a major deforestation problem. Reforestation is therefore a major climate change mitigation and adaptation activity. We are happy to announce that we engaged in major tree planting exercise in 2024. We supplied and assisted in the transplanting of seedlings in the following 16 villages and towns across the country:

  1. Bundung, KMC
  2. Foday Kunda, URR
  3. Fatoto, URR
  4. Jiboro, WCR
  5. Kudang, CRR
  6. Kunjata, NBR
  7. Kunting, CRR
  8. Madina Yero, URR
  9. Majumba, CRR
  10. Nana Ba, CRR
  11. Nana Lawbeh, CRR
  12. Nana Sinchu, CRR
  13. Old Yundum, WCR
  14. Passamasi Mandinka, URR
  15. Passamasi Fulakunda, URR
  16. Sintet, WCR

A total of about 10,000 seedlings were distributed comprising of the following trees: mangoes, cashew, cordia, flamboyant, mahogany, rosewood and gmelina. These seedlings were transplanted on streets within settlements and community forest preserves, as well as around facilities such as schools and health centers. In addition to the above 16 communities, individuals from an additional 11 villages and town across the country were given seedlings to plant on their private premises.
